5500 euros enough for a 2 or 2-2 1/2 month trip? - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

I was wondering if $7000 cdn(aprx. $5500 euro) is enough for a back packing trip from march to may to Italy, Germany, Austria and Holland. Also this is not including rail pass or air tickets. Also I would be staying in hostels in stead of hotels.

Im no expert but from what ive read here its definately enough and about 1000 euro more then im planning on having for my 2 month trip next year

Sounds ok but I think it is close if you need to pay for a flight there and transportation in Europe.

Daily expenses are estimated at $75-$100 CDN per day, including food-logding-local transporstation-activities (clubs, Internet, museums, etc). So you're fine for about 70 days.

Of course, there are ways to spend less money, like eating only one meal per day in restaurants and buy food for the rest.

If you take your time and buy your air ticks at the right time, you could save a ton and not have to budget so high. My wife and I can do that length trip including air for less than that, comes down to your spending habits. For us, we mainly eat street food, much cheaper, and most of our money goes toward drinkin unless of course we are in A-Dam, then our budget goes to smoke

Does that amount include loss of income or rent, carpayments, bills at home etc...? Having to come up with a mortgage payment while we are traveling for a month or so without any income is always a bitch. I try to set aside all the monthly bills in advance, so that when we leave, we have the bills paid already. Happy traveling

Yeah as others have said it really depends on your spending habits and the style in which you want to travel. Honestly, I could probably make 5k last almost five months.

I was gonna say, that'd be enough to be extravagant (for a backpacker) for those 2 months...

Thanks everybody, I don't really have any payments to be made while I'm away and that is why I have saved so much. I don't really plan to be extravagant on travelling, I just wanna have fun and see as much musuems and sites as possible and I wanna make sure my trip is as fun and memorable as possible and I don't want to be penny pinching when I have been doing this for 8 months prior to go on this trip. Also I'm guessing Switzerland is the most expensive western european country outisde of the UK?

Everyone was saying that Switzerland was the most expensive when I was there. And things did run a bit on the high end (but then you have to account for the exchange rate). Most of the time the major cities are the most expensive though no matter where you are.

that should be fine i just got home from packing through uk, germany, netherlands, italy, austria, czech, and spain and it only cost me 4750 canadian and i was gone for 2 months so i don't think you'll have a problem

I was over in Europe for 4 months and spent I think about 6000 so you should be doing great!!! Yeah like everyone said have a great time just be smart about it. Stay at hostels that offer breakfast and then all you have to do is get some dinner. Also if your gonna have a big night out bring up the idea of buying drinks at a booze store and hving some in the hostel before you go out, this will save heaps of coin espceially in say germany (I wouldent worry about it in the czch republic) and its a great bonding thing with the people your going out with!.......Your rail pass is gonna be around 500-1000 if you go with eurail depending on which one you get. And also remeber this rule "if they dont ask, dont give" meaning if you go to a museum or some site, walk in like you own the place and you might slip thorugh the cracks and wont have to pay, we spent the whole day in the louvre and never payed a single entrance fee, with so many people running around some of these sites its easy for you to slip thorugh the cracks! That was a nice meal we had that night instead of the entrance fee!
