I have no clue what Aussie's system is like. But I'm sure someone does.

Okay so I don't even KNOW what tax returns are... but google makes the world go round so I found this site: Australian Tax Return: Youth: eTax Returns

I don't know if that means you can do it overseas, but if it doesn't say there, try this place--->Australian Tax Return: Youth: Tax Questions

I hope this helps you out...!

thanks julia i almost gave up lookin on that site then i clicked some stuff and found wat i needed to know

btw - the tax return is the government with holds a certain amount of each pay, then when we do our tax return crap, they work out how much they have to give back (depending on how much you earn) or in some cases how much you owe them... kind of complicated i dont understand it that well....but with me since ill be quitting my job at the end of feb and not working for the rest of the finacial year ill prolly get about $2000+aud back therefore having more money to spend on beer

Hey FC - here's a thought. Do what two of my good friends did and get one of your mates to do it for you using Etax. In this case I was the 'good mate'. It did end up being a bit more complex than I first thought - you need to nominate them via the tax dept as acting on your behalf (download form from net and both parties sign it). Then just get your group certificates sent to your mates place. By doing it online you don't need to sign any forms yourself. And it can be direct deposited into your bank account.

I can't see why there'd be any reason you couldn't download etax and complete your tax return from anywhere in the world provided you have your group certificates available.

Hmm not sure - I think you might have to wait til the end of the financial year but I could be wrong. That's why it works to get it sent to a friend's house and have them do it for you. But DrJ's suggestion is also valid! Maybe if you have a friend o/s that you could get the GC sent to (and get from at some stage), then you have until like the end of Oct to do it online. And Etax is easy to download and easy to use - as long as you don't have any complex stuff to claim you should get the $ in your account within 10 working days.

There are also provisions to complete your tax return WITHOUT a group certificate. You'll need to know your gross income and the amount of tax you've paid along with any type a, b or c payments (which you should be able to get from your pay slips - easy enough to organise BEFORE you leave).
