Ok I am getting closer to my trip and more nervous. I like to have everything set, kind of anal that way, not my itinerary, but at least my finances and plans.

Heres what I got. I am departing Oct 8th and coming home Oct 23rd. I arrive in Amsterdam on the 9th, and depart Rome on the 23rd. I plan on spending a few days in Amsterdam, Paris, Florence, Rome. I will Night Train from Paris to Florence. I plan on buying a rail pass in the next few days. I have my airplane ticket already, and should be getting my backpack in the next day or so. (Its the eagle creek Transcontinental) I decided on that one because I plan on doing more traveling. This trip is to just get a taste for it.

Ok my question is, how much money will I need? Should I book my hostels online now, since I kind of know where I am going? I like to have fun, go out to bars, but will limit myself to beer, to save a little there. I figured it at about 1500 usd, is that about right or is that more than enough?

Thanks again!!

Going by what Ive been told at about $75 USD per day should cover hostel food etc. Using that figure for how long your going to be there 15 days * $75, that comes to $1125 USD. In my inexperienced opinion, I would say thats enough. I mean if thats how much you plan on having after purchasing your eurail pass or whatever. Plus, have you thought about trying to use Ryanair or easyjet or something instead of a train...it might be cheaper??

Would that flying make more sense? I was thinking of getting the cheap bordering countires flex pass. It gives you 5 days of use and its only 388 usd. I am only going on the train from amsterdam to paris, and paris to florence, and florence to rome. Thats all I need to do. What are you thoughts?

More than enough. Trains rock!!! Planes may or may not be cheaper, but they are definitely not more fun. You will meet a lot of people on the trains especially if you sleep on them for the overnighters. I love the overnighters. It's like 10-20 dollars extra (with eurorail pass) to get a mixed sleeper, so you save money while moving and you wake up in a new world. With the kind of money you have for the amount of time you will be there you could even afford private rooms on the train. Have a blast.
