I'm your typical "Army brat" and my family is currently calling Germany "home." I'm looking for cheap ways to call home from Canada. I am going to be travelling for a few months around Canada and the US, then settling on the West coast for school in September. Any suggestions appreciated!

Around this joint, phone cards are the way to go...try and find one thats valid Canada wide if you can, and check for ones with low or no connection fee. The come in 5 - 10 - 20 $$$ cards, well worth the price for all international calls.

Agreed. Try something like OneSuite.com, available for use in Canada and the US, I believe. You can just sign right up, recharge on the phone or online, it's cheap, and it's easy! Sometimes, when you're traveling, stores like Virgin Megastores have free trial calling cards lying around too, that give you like 20 free minutes or something and then you can recharge it later, but it's kinda a pain to have to carry around a card, I think. Yea, and do watch out for connection fees and stuff as well- they're sneaky about that!

Any conveniance corner store and gas station here will carry a choice of different calling cards, some better then others. A lot of people I know use CiCi calling cards... I haven't used them, but apparently they are great. I guess you can always buy a few $5 ones and compare which one works out better for you.
