Hey all,
I`m off about the start of August for 3 months in Russia(1 month will be in Siberia doing volunteer work, so won`t be spending much there(200Euro maybe).
I figure 3 months in Russia staying in hostels and camping etc..buying food in supermarkets, street food/cheap restaurants at evening...and train-ing it about the place from St. Pete to Vladivostok....that i should be able to do that with 2000 Euro for 3 months.???
And the another 3 months traveling though China(i want to visit Beijing, Shanghai, Canton/Hong Kong, - then through Veitnam to S.E. Asia - costing another 2000 Euro for 3 months.Possible?
Anyone think i`m being a bit idealistic????
I have`nt traveled Russia/Asia before - so i`m lost when it comes to costs.
But going on my spending habits in E. Europe, i manage to have a great time and sleep/eat/drink well on 800/1000Euro per month.
Hope someone can answer me on Russia/Aisa!
Good knows where the hell i`m going to get the money to fly back home to Ireland though!!!!Take the bus i guess...

Welcome to TPunk! Wow, sounds like quite the adventure. I have never been to Russia or China, but I can't imagine that $4000 Euro wouldn't be enough for that time period.
You mentioned that you'll be in Siberia doing volunteer work...tell me more! What organisation? What will you be doing? I have been working with non-profits for 10 years now, so it is something I am very interested in hearing about

MANNN!
I am so friggin jelous I would love to go to mongolia and that area, my buddies sister is in Nepal and loving it, so your a lucky basterd! your 4000 Euro should be more then enough cause in S.E.A you can live for........less then 10 euro a day no sweat and in mongolia I imagine it being even cheaper........whats this volounteer work in Sibera ???
Speaking of sibera I herd through the grapevine that there are bush companies that pay people over 100k us to go to siberia and they teach you how to run heavy equipment and whatnot and I think its somethig like 6 motnh contracts, its core though cause well its siberia, and they are 12 hour shifts I reckon out in a camp in the middle of nowhere but that is some serious money.....been thinking about looking into it

Well the volunteer work is with Lake Baikal Watch, so the prohject will be on the East shore of Lake Baikal, abuot 6 hours norht of Ulan Ude.
The project(well the one i`ll be invloved in) is basically clearing paths/trails around the national park there, building picnic stops and all that....

Thewills - this work you talk about sounds like a logging company?
Don`t know if the Baikal Watch people would appreciate me going off working for them after i finish the project!Ha!
On Russia - anyone done shoestring budget backpacking through there?

Popular Chinese Tea Customs:
-when you're in a restaurant, and want to refill the tea, open the lid
-when someone pours you tea, tap the table next to the tea with your first two fingers... this means thank you
...just in case it comes in handy =)
Have fun
