im gonna be gone long-term, about a year at least. what the hell am i supposed to do about taxes?

Organise as much of the paperwork as you can so it's ready and then ask one of your good friends/relatives to complete the return on your behalf.

Yeah, as long as you have your tax info from the previous year, you can file online 100% paperless and have the money direct deposited into your account.
