Flying is generally the most expensive. I just spent $650 on a ticket to Muenchen. It should only be $200 for hostels for a month because of where I'm going and friends. And I'm a girl, so I very rarely buy my own drinks. The most I usually pay is 10 euros in a night for cover or a pub crawl.
I can do backpacking pretty cheaply. This summer I spent $800 on a ticket, $300 on hostels, $200 on trains, and $600 the rest. Just under 2 grand for a month. I can't even live that cheaply here.

I would definitly say lodging. I'm a girl and normally have gotten drinks for free so that is always a bonus. Best place for free drinks...Galway, man. Amazing.
