ok im planning on interrailing around europe for about 4-6 weeks..not long i know
but iv never really travelled before its been more like save for a holiday and come home.. with still some cash to spare, however iv a felling this is gonna be different!!
i know the question is prob a bit broad,but anyone who has been on a similar trip have any ideas?!?

I did a 5 week Euro trip 6 months ago and i think i ended up spending about $4000 - $5000AUD ($3000 - $3700USD)......i think, can't quite remember, but that gives you a rough idea. Oh, and that doesn't include airfares.

Im planning a trip same time, for about a month, now it may be longer but money wise we planned 3500-4000 USD for the month, INCLUDING airfare,that was planning like 800 airfare, now the rates will probably be about 1000. if you calculate about 1600 for travel, and then 75 dollars a day, it works to be about 3600 for 28 days + the two days flying to and from europe. So maybe that helps.

I should add that i wasn't really doing very well with my budgeting while i was in EU, you could do it a lot cheaper than that if you cooked for yourself, didn't drink rediculous amounts every night, and possibly camped every now and again.

I did a month long trip on about $3000 (USD) Although I did the www.globalfreeloader.com thing in two cities which saved me a ton on hostel and food costs.

hey guys thankx a mill for yer help,gonna def look n2 that global free loader thing!
as it is i can afford 3000euro for the trip plus what eva it costs for travel and im thinkin it might be a bit cheaper as i already live in europe(ireland) so the flights are fairly low and as for the rest i was thinkin the 2 zone 22 day inter railing pass?
and fingers crossed for not running out..

I am starting to get concerned about my budget as well.

I am planning after plane tickets and Eurail to have around $5000 USD for 3 months. About 2 weeks of this will be in Egypt which I know is pretty cheap.

Think thats enough?

Depends on where you're going and how much you plan to spend at every destination.

Try the globalfreeloader thing for the more expensive cities (Paris, London etc) if you're worried about the money.

A budget for Europe can very sooooo much depending on ur expenses. If you go to the store and cook your on meals at hostels with communal kitchens then you can average 5-15Euro a day but if you like to eat out you can double that number. You should watch the bar bill too, it can drain a large chunk of ur savings over time.

Overall though a month traveling around Europe, rail ticket aside, should be anywhere from 1900-2300 USD.

PS. Slacker, taveling aorund places like Egypt can save you a bunch. When I went to Istanbul I could get a good meal for like 3 USD and a bed for 10.

Read this Tpunk budget article. It breaks down your cost by item (ie food, sleeping, etc) to give you a good idea of how much money you need.

If you stick mostly to eastern Europe it will be plenty. However, i doubt it will be enough if you plan to spend most of your time in Western Europe, unless you do some pretty hardcore budgeting.

One of the biggest fluctuations when planning a trip is your "entertaiment budget". If you want to go travel and just see the sites and go off the beaten path you can get away with spending a lot less. If you are traveling and want to see the major attractions and eat at the big name places and go out and party every night it will cost a lot of money. While everyone wants to have fun when they are on a vacation, it just depends on what kind of fun.

Networking can be a key to getting things cheap when traveling. So be sure to keep you eyes peeled for oppurtunities to keep your costs down. cause even saving $5 a day is $150 by months end. Then you can really celebrate your last night.

i did one month in europe 2 years ago with a friend for $4000 CDN (including air fare/rail passes). we were so frugal with our money, that we had about $300 spending cash each to waste on our last days in london, so we splurged on a concert and shopping...just totally depends on how "cheap" you are
