This is part 2 of my long term trip abroad research. I am trying to get some numbers so that I know how much I will have to save to make this happen. I will be camping, eating via grocery, and trying to freeload as much as I can. Anyone got an estimate (in USD) of how much I should have to travel for 365 days (1 year). I know it varies based on location so I will be specific as to where I want to go:

Europe (western and eastern)
Asia (China, Thailand, etc)
South America (Brazil, Chile, Argentina, etc)

Anyone have any good sources for a cost per day for camping/really cheap shelter? Also need a food per day (grocery) estimate.

Estimates on flights between continents would be helpful too if anyone has an idea!

Thanks guys!

Thanks! That helped a little. The only prob is that site doenst account for camping in Europe. I read an older book that stated $16 per day for camping and food. I am assuming a 1 to 1 forex rate for USD to Euro so I increased it to $20 to adjust for today's rate. I will be moving around a lot so I know it will vary. I guess my real question is if I want to travel for an entire year to Asia, Europe, and South America then what would be a good total budget (including everything and obviously shooting high for safety). I am gonna live as cheap as possible (vagabonding). I need a number to work with so I have a savings target.

Thanks guys!

The calculator does n't include camping in Europe YET. Will be added soon. ;)

Thanks! I will check back soon. I think even if I camp, stay for long stretches, and eat out sparingly I will be able to do it for $30 per day (with current forex rates) and be comfortable and not run out of money. That comes out to roughy 11,000 USD that I will need. I will also have to add in supplies, travel (air, bus, train), emergency money, insurance, discretionary money, and equopment. My latest estimate is 15,000 to do it for 1 entire year. I might have 2 other people coming along so I guess some of the costs wil be split in which case I might get away with 13,200 (or $1100 USD per month).

Any opinions/adjustments?
