Good budget for OZ just remember though to have some extra cash for diving and stuff if you are into that. When I went I was on a $40 USD a day budget and came home with extra cash and I did a ton of things out there. You have to love the prices at the BARS!!!

Sounds like that should be enough, im from Australia. But it really depends on where you're going because some places can get really expensive like parts of Queensland and Syd etc.. And if you like the pubs/clubs try to get in before 10pm its heaps cheaper for drinks and entry.. drinks are still expensive in the city they're between $7.00 and $9.00 for a standard spirit.. if you're going to sydney check out the big sydney RSL first they sell cheap drinks before 10 or just look around. Food in the city can be expensive too but if you look around you can find cheap food especially if your staying in a hostel. Im from the quieter part of NSW down the south coast and theres a hostel here but im not sure what the rate is but food and stuff is still a bit pricey because theres not much choice And air flights are pretty cheap at the moment with Virginblue and Jetstar from melb to syd is something like $50 one way and from syd to brisbane is like even cheaper sometimes so that might be a better way of getting around too.

I had around $35-40 US per day and did just fine. Although my drinking habits exhausted my finances when I started hanging around some Welsh guys in the hostel, but hey its bound to happen.

In Syd., look for cheap lunch specials. I found this one place (damn if I could remember it, somewhere downtown, walked up some stairs), were you get a HUGE plate of hot food and a beer for $5 AU. Wake up, barely make it to lunch, stuff yourself, drink the night away. Not the healthiest diet, but cheap. Sydney was one of the cheapest places to eat I found.

Yeah.. well I reckon if the accomodation is around $40/50 AU a night i think a daily budget should be around $70/80 dollars.. and that would be easy living on that much. Thats if your planning on pubbin it each night.. but heres a tip do what us ozzies do and go to the bottle shop buy take away and get drunk before you go out so then you wont spend heaps when you go out because i know if your into going out it does cost to get into places for example in sydney this nightclub called home goes for around $40 on a fri and sat night to get in, others are about 15/20 dollars so like I said try get in before 10pm so they wont charge so much

Hey claire how you doing
800 GBP eh, that might be an intresting bit, yeah your gonna have too budget especially all the way up from cairns too adelaide. However your gonna be totaly fine, gotta love that exchange rate. I would sugest bussing it, it might be a little shitty from cairns but once you hit brisbane all the the major centers southward like surfers, sydney wollongong are all within several hours bus. Another good idea might be train, I would reccomend finding out if you can just get a single 1 month bus pass and just run that as much as you need too it may be cheaper while giving you some flexability. Keep in Touch and I'll meet you somewhere for a beer or 2

Alot of outdoor stuff, not so many attractions like europe say, Oz I find is more for the outdoors person, so go scuba diving, surfing parasailing, skydiving. and wildlife watching, just listen too other people at the hostels they will tell you whats cool too see in the area
Save up about 100 for them beers
