Hello all, this is my first post so I hope y'all don't let me down I'm heading over to Western Europe in September and I was curious if anyone had suggestions for an American bank that has little or no withdrawl fees from ATMs over there. Currently , my bank sucks and I get charged everywhere but at the bank itself so I need a serious change. Any help is very appreciated, Thanks

Hi there, welcome! The unfortunate reality is that you're going to have to live with the charges. There aren't any American banks in Western Europe. Most of the european banks charge about the same amount as here ... in addition to that, your bank is going to charge you the same fee for every withdrawl you make, which you already know. The trick is to make fewer and larger withdrawls so you're not getting hit with fees all the time. In the UK some of the main banks are Barclay's, HSBC and Lloyd's. Also try the ATMS at the post office, their fees may be a little lower. Try to avoid private ATM machines as they almost always have a far higher per-transaction fee.

good luck!!
