Default System/Business Analyst Consultants Out There??

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to find someone with some consulting background in implementing an information system to provide me with advise of scope (estimating a timeline) and fees for service.

My day job is in a Project Management Office where I am interning in the Project Manager position. Hopefully things lead to a permanent PM position but not holding my breath in this economy.

Anywho, on select evenings, I assist at a recording studio and offer some basic assistance with getting a business launched that they are working on outside of the studio they run(compensation to follow when revenue comes in). I mentioned my background in the business venture meeting I attended last night with entertainment business professionals.

This led to me being offered a position to implement Studio Suite 8 at the studio to streamline their operations. They're had it laying around for over a year with no action and they are COMPLETELY disorganized. The system will do wonders if implemented.

They are looking to input all their backed up paperwork, (a large filing cabinet) use it for invoicing, machine maintenance scheduling, studio scheduling; basically the works that the system offers. They would like training documentation to facilitate learning.

The job itself is not a problem. I've done work like this before but never as a consultant. They have about 2 years worth of documentation to go through but they are a small organization.

My question to anyone out there whose done this type of work before is (take a quick look at StudioSuite 8 ) how long do you estimate such a project will take and how do you estimate the pay? Do you have a suggested rate I can tack onto this project?

Sorry for the length, I just wanted to explain the background a bit. Please feel free to ask me anything else that may help you help me! lol I'm meeting with them again tomorrow to take a physical look at the system but I doubt a price will be set.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!!

Thank you!

I haven't done any consulting "as a business" yet, but will start something soon. Internet related services for local business owners.

Are you going to tackle the project on your own, or will you be hiring some people under your supervision to do the grunt work? Hiring some helping hands will expedite your project and will be more cost effective for the company.

Here are a couple of articles that I found that could help you determine your fees-

I would venture to say that $150-$250 an hour is fairly reasonable for a short term project or for whenever they retain your services. Of course, only you know what your services and time are worth.

Whatever you decide, they may want to negotiate depending on their budget.

Congrats (hopefully) on your first paid consulting services!

Well, I'm doing it independently not as a business since its my first. But I have a good chance to leap frog from this company to others with their connections to other entertainment people. So maybe a business is blooming! lol

The only other person who will be helping with the project is the owner's assistant who has already been entering invoices into the system but only as of late. She'd be doing the majority of the simple data entry.

All other work is on me basically. I'd be working on it about 3 hours a day 3 or 4 days a week or so. (Can't afford anymore time with my real job and school work!) It's not like at my job where there is a "team" to get something rolling!

Thanks for the links, I'm going to take a look at them now before I go in to evaluate the system and sit with him to find out the business requirements he wants out of it since the demo online shows a whole mess of features.

thanks again!
