Today is a sad sad day for this T-punker. I was working at a sweet job however a motnh ago I got laid off, and I havent been able to find work since. I wanted to go to Oz in september and only have 2000 saved up, It looks like the trip might not be able to go through unless I can some how find work super fast. Sigh, this sucks

Do you not get Unemployement insurence???

I hope you do find something quick my friend...Even if you hold off a couple of months, as our Aussie friends will tell us, the weather will be good in Dec and Jan as well...so it may take a bit more time, but do not loose hope, and understand that there are some pro's to going a bit later...

Seriously once the restaurent closes it's one big partaaay. don't burn yourself. my friend worked in the kitchen and got hot oil on his hand. ewww it was one nasty sore. Be careful, have fun and start saving some moola! btw hopefully you come to oz in sept cuz I'll be there!

Talking

The quickest way to see the "light at the end of the tunnel" is to take whatever jobs available to fill your schedule completely. It's not always the amount of your salary but the fact that when you work 80 hours a week there's little free time to spend it.

I usually chose to avoid most of the weekend invitations from friends wanting to party, go out drinking or to restaurants like after the movies etc. within the 3 month periods it took me to save enough money to get ON THE ROAD again, I joined my friends in going out, probably not more than a half dozen times. We all know there's a variety of jobs which allow one to catch a buzz while working and like Diorama mentioned about restaurant / bar work, there's usually a fun group of high energy, interesting "transient" co-workers to party with after and sometimes during work.

On top of the humdrum paychecks it always helps to buy and sell something for a profit; one of my first projects were selling closeout T-Shirts and puka shell necklaces. After traveling in Asia, I always had a variety of Asian handicrafts and jewelry etc etc in a suitcase in the trunk of my car so on the rare occasions I went out partying and anyone mentioned a birthday/Christmas/anniversary gift they ask me to bring in my suitcase of gift items. Walking away with U$100 to U$200 wasn't unusual. Might sound tacky to some of you but more important than what you sell or how much you make is an ATTITUDE FOCUSED ON ESCAPE from "normalville" to make your TRAVEL DREAMS a REALITY as soon and as often as possible.
