Default How much will I need?

I am traveling through out Western Europe this summer between the dates of May 21 through June 16. I have already bought both my eurail pass and plain ticket. My question is--How much money will I need once I am there. I plan on staying in Hostels every night and have incorporated 35-40 dollars into my daily budget for hostels. How much more do you think will be needed? I am a first time traveler

the way you want to live while overseas is the big decision.
you can prolly live on 50 euro a day, but to be in more comfort you can increase your budget as needed.
on my 3 month trip next year im planning on having around 60E a day.
but then again i havent been overseas yet... someone will pop up here with a real good number for you to follow.

I think you are low balling a little bit with 35 dollars a night for hostels...Keep in mind all of the actual touristy things you want to do as well, museums, sightseeing and spending money for food, drink, entertainment. There are several people on the boards that have been to Europe and will be able to help out more with actual costs. Where exactly are you going and what kind of initial budget are you working with??

I agree that $35-$40 is a rather low. This won't leave you much for doing anything else after your hostel expenditures.

Double that amount, per day, to be safe. Better to travel stress-free...
