Default online banking safety?

hey all, quick question: how safe is it likely to be for me to access online banking while im travelling through europe? im not taking a laptop so it'd be through netcafes or hostel comps. im hesitant to load all my money on to my creditcard before i go in case i loose it.
(i will also have a debit card/cash/travellex card)

holy shizz i go on friday!!!

I do all my banking online, even over here in Afghanistan. Banks have a secure server, so if someone got on your account, they couldn't just hit the "back" button in a browser and have access to all your shit. For me, online banking is super convenient and the only way to go. Also, if you get in a situation where you lose your card, make sure you have the toll free # to your bank in this situation. I'd suggest a traveler's check or a credit card or a hidden stash of cash for emergencies, but if you keep your card somewhere say, there should be no worries.

Happy travels on Friday!

I also do all my banking online while travelling. I would suggest letting your bank know the countries you will be visiting. Just be smart online, and you should have no problems. Have a blast and very jealous you leave soooo soon!!!

You have to make sure your internet cafe is a reputable place. It is rare, but possible to have a keylogger on a computer at the seedier shops.

As Mark said, let your bank know where you're going! I called them up, and had to let them know which countries I would be in, and in roughly which order (which was alright for me, as we stuck to our itinerary). Strangely enough though, about two weeks after we got back, my boyfriend got a phone call from his bank saying "We've noticed there was some activity on your account from Australia"... well, he did let them know he was going there, but nice of them to check into it about a month after we'd actually left the place! Useful...

Anyway, so we did internet banking all the time. Be smart, and make sure you log off the banking pages correctly, etc. And HAVE FUN!!
