Where exactly are you going? For one week I'd imagine it would be no more than two major cities (at least I'd hope not). Regardless, I'd say US $100 per day would be a safe budget. You could get by on less than that, and sometimes a LOT less, but I'm willing to bet you'll be hitting up the most expensive places.

Zero. Travelers checks are obsolete, just a waste of time and money (IMO). Many places don't take them, and you have to pay a surcharge to cash them out for local currency (after waiting in line). Take a few hundred dollars to start, and use your bank card to withdraw whatever else you need once you're there.

I agree, you should be able to use most ATMs in major cities. Just be sure to alert your bank first so they dont suddenly see withdrawls in Europe when you've never left the States before.

^ This happened to me. Fortunately I was able to correct it while I was in Spain. ATM cards are definitely the way to go especially on such a short trip.

100 bucks a day is a good amount for London (which is where most first timers to Europe start) but over kill in Southern Spain.

So where are you headed?
