Default First Timer - How much do i need

hey guys, i am planning a trip to europe next yr (i know its ages away but i have no idea what im doing). it is my first trip overseas and i am having some difficulty budgeting because i have family in a few countries. im planning to stay for about 5 months. i have family in italy, sweden, and denmark so accomodation in those countries will be fine. however id also really like to see spain, portugal, france and germany and spend some time partying in ibiza. i know i have alot of ground to cover, i have read a few of the posts about budgeting in europe however im still at a loss of how much i should be taking. im 18 this yr and for my birthday my parents are buying me my ticket (i know i am as shocked as u are ahaha i think they are just trying to get rid of me lol). so airfare is also excluded from my budget. after reading some of the posts on travelpunk i estimated about $12,000 aussie dollars for the 5 months. keeping in mind i have accomodation in some countries.

id appreciate any tips or advice you guys can give me even if it isnt just about how much $$$ to take and just about the countries themselves, as i said im brand new at this, its my first internetional trip and i am soooooo excited. the more info i can get the more organised ill be.

Lets see... 12000/5 = 2400 a month.. so 80 a day. Wow's that's a lot.

Per day
30-hostel
30-food
20-misc

not bad eh? in theory.... of course in real life it ends up being like this per day

30-hostel
2-food
3-misc
45-booze

But of course, $80 is a good comfortable budget based on calculations.

I spent 3500 in 5 weeks, but I remember living cheaply, eating cheaply, but drinking lots.

Wow, 80 a day?? Wish I had that.

I was around 20-30 USD a day after hostel. I brougth that number up by being really frugle at first.

In london for 3 days almost I only had a baggette. (im pretty sure i spelled baggette wrong btw)

You should EASILY be good, especially if you really watch your money for the first bit.

I'd rather go slow at the start, and then have money to burn at the end lol.

^to kiwi chick you listen. 12k Aussie is 7.5k Euros. You are still in good shape but you aren't going to be living the high life or anything.
