I am trying to pull off making $12,000 income from now until mid-April to cover paying off some old debts, buying all the stuff for my trip, and covering my 3 month trip all over UK and Europe! Tax return as well as my birthday and Christmas will also help acheiving this goal! Wish me luck!

BTW I pull about $1400 a month after taxes and as of right now my living/commute to work expenses are about $160 a month.....

Nice goal. If it gets tempting to use any of it early, just think of the trip. That always gives me the motivation that I need.

Stay strong...it's gonna be tough but like sudz said if your struggling and eating butter sandwiches just think of the trip.

I'm grinding trying to get about 15 grrr saved for a RTW trip next year this time. I'm not used to saving...and I'm hurting already but it should get easier as you go....right??

Good luck man..it'll all be worth it.

Good luck everyone who is trying to save.

Remember though, don't make yourself miss out on everything that is going on between now and your trip. If your friends want to go for a night out, or for dinner out or something, treat yourself occasionally, as you'll just end up feeling like you're missing out on all the fun.

I've become the world's laziest saver. I'm currently saving money right now for my next trip and I am doing it but at a slugs pace. And you know what . I have no regrets! I've had the best summer ever. Tons of road trips, party nights with friends..It's probably going to take an extra 5 months to save for my trip but I don't care I'm 24 and still want to have fun with my friends in my home town! That's where I am in my life. I've already saved about $4000 in 5 months so that's not bad. And that's still with loads of drinking nights Anyways I agree with Lauren make sure that you still have time for your life in your hometown !

Thanks for all the words folks! I have considered breaking down and selling my new DJ gear I just bought in March to help fund my trip. Since I am not getting a car I wont be able to spin any parties (unless people pick me up) between now and then anyways! Now I just mess around with my stuff at home. Very tempting but then again DJing was my one true calling in life.... maybe now its just a passion or hobby !?!?!?! We will so as time gets closer and how much money I have left to save....

I am thinking of canceling a trip I had planned next month to Tennessee in the Smokey Mountains so I can have more money towards my Backpacking trip!

sell everything you won on ebay. Think about it if you have 50 cd's and sell them for say £2-3 a go that money adds up...
