Ok, so here's my question... I'm cheap (yes, I admit it... Freely) and I'm looking to spend anywhere from 4 months to 2 years wandering around next year. Now because I'm so.... "Thrifty"... I'm looking to save money any way I can... How much good does an ISIC (international student identity card) actually do? Should I try and figure out a way to get one? Or not bother...

Ummmm, if they cost anything i'd say not to worry about it. You'll get discounts on entry prices at a lot of the tourist attractions, but the amount you get off isn't really that impressive.

I was happy I had mine. It pretty much paid for itself by day 1 after I saved on my Gatwick Express ticket to get into London! Some places, it's the only student ID they'll accept (museums, etc.) There's tons of posts on the ISIC debate on the boards, although I don't know how to point you in the right direction!

If you're staying for that long I'd say it's deffinitely worth it, check out their site http://www.isic.org/sisp/index.htm which has in in country/city what discounts you can get. Besides it works in museums and such.

What about a IYIC? Is that worth it seeing as it doesn't have all the same discounts available to the Student one? It's only $18AUD which I figure is nothing but what can you use it on?
