Ipods are super sexy, and not as common in Europe as the US.* Get one.* But don't get Ipod Mini unless you want to be laughed at!
What's wrong with the iPod mini? I'm considering one of those since the regular iPod I had was too heavy... the size was compact but it felt like carrying a brick around.

Another option is, if you already have a PDA, is to store mp3s on flash memory (compact flash, sd card, memory stick) and use it to play your music there.

Memory card prices are pretty expensive though, but it's one less item you have to carry.

I've heard iRiver's a good brand, if I do choose to purchase a mp3 player it might be from them

Im pretty much over looking around for music devices. Seriously considering just making a couple of tapes up and throwing my old banged up walkman in my day pack. Plus, it has radio, and yeah, if it gets broke or beat up on by roomies, no big loss. Its just that everything is so expensive for what you really get.

+ in oz at the moment, mp3 players are just taking off, so we are paying a premium for even the 128mb players, which are rather pointless for travellers who dont have continual access to a pc to change and upload the song content.

At least with tapes (lol, im laughing at how oldskool im going to be) you can rock up to a party with your music and put it on. (?)

i hear that. we just got a cd player in our car and I was really disappointed to see the tapes go! no more blues brothers, good morning vietnam, or westside connect! damn!

well, I think on my trip I'm just gonna take my cd player which can play mp3 cds, and I'll just take 2 or 3 mp3 cds loaded with songs. now i just have to figure out how to make mp3 cds....
