Default high capacity memory cards

I'm looking at SD cards for my next trip, and they're available up to 4GB now! (I've seen even bigger from no-name brands) Anyone had any luck using higher capacity cards? I remember reading somewhere that it will slow down your camera once the memory starts filling up, but I don't know anyone who has one...

It would be nice to take a ton of pictures without having to burn cds or anything, but if it's not reliable- what's the point?

I had a 4GB card for a long time that I snagged out of an iPod. I had it in my canon camera for a year or so and never had a problem whatsoever. I loved it because even in a very high res I could go ahead and still get about 8000 pictures on there or if I went smaller between 13 - 16K pictures.

I never had any reliability problems at all. I also never thought it slowed down the camera in the least.

i have a 1gb card and i find that it slows down my camera but mine is about 5 years old now and wasn't the fastest to start with... it just takes a little extra time to get started taking the pictures after it's on and everything it works fine.... i love it when i was in england i took over 500 pictures and didn't have to worry about anything till i got home and had to go thur all of them....

Thanks guys!

My camera's a few years old too, but I'm hoping to replace it before I take off again. Canon's SD800 and a couple of the others I'm looking are supposed to be "SDHC" compatible, so they shouldn't have any issues.

The 2GB cards have gotten really cheap too! Just $35 on amazon...

I am using an SD 2gb card with no problems. Just check the manual for your camera and make sure there is no maximum supported size for it (I have seen that before). They are great and economical and some cameras can benefit from high speed cards (ie 50x, 133x, 150x) which means they read and write faster than normal ones.

i have a 2GB card and i haven't had any problems... if your camera can make seperate folders on the card though, do it cause it sucks big time when you're telling an awesome story in a bar and you need a particular photo to prove it and you have to sit and scroll through thousands of photos... not cool. people get bored.
