I put a bid on a blackberry on there and I entered the highest amount I'd pay - does that mean I'll automatically end up paying that much or will I just pay the amount the auction ends at? God I feel like such a fucking moron for not double checking that. It's supposed to let you do proxy bidding, but that option never came up for me. So, please, tell me if you've used them. What a shitty site anyhow, but they have the best prices on the 7100.

Yea i've used them but I always did the "bid upto" thing so I am not sure what you did.

I liked them, they are cheap and have solid products.

Hmmmm... I guess we'll see whether I've wasted $$ or not. Okay, I don't think uBid is shitty but they're site lacks a lot of info for idiots like me. Glad to know they're reputable.

I got screwed by those guys about two years back and so stopped using them. I bid and won on one of a lot of MP3 players that was supposed to have certain specs, I forget the specifics now. BUT...the MP3 player comes and it only has half the storage capacity it was supposed to have. I was pissed (as were many others). Their options were to send it back or get like a $10 discount...whoopdy-f'ing-doo. I was leery about sending it back, because previously I had purchased some cheap RAM and ended up sending it back and I never got my credit, even after multiple phone calls, etc. So I took the crappy discount and what had seemed like such a good deal was not such a good deal afterall. So.....I stay away from U-Bid.

Good luck!

bought my camera through U-bid, a reconditioned Olympus c-8080 for 350 less than new... I got exactly what I bid on, and had no problems with shipping etc.. Though they're a bit less polished than E-bay, they seem to be ok. I'll wager the same problem exists with them as with eBay, the site is just a go between, so you can still have individual vendor issues... Use paypal or some sort of payment protection...

I'd use them again, however

I used to use them back when online auctions were new... I never really had problems with them, and I got some kick-ass deals. Without them, I wouldn't have gotten my first digital camera or first CD burner. (Yeah, I'm that old... and so are they.)

However, just about everyone else I know to have used them has their share of nightmares, whether it's getting stuff with the wrong specs (like LFoD) or getting refurbs that somehow never got refurbished. Aaanyway, despite my luck with them, I've heard enough bad stuff to stop using them, as I've found other places to get stuff just as cheap.

If you're a bargain hunter, you should really start using bargain sites like fatwallet.com and bensbargains.net to find out what's cheap, who's good, etc.
