I've been working on a project recently to make it cheaper to keep in touch via SMS with people abroad, or while you're traveling. I created a Java application for mobile phones (cell phones) which sends the SMS via your phones internet connection for just 9p a message to anywhere in the world. Each SMS uses less than 1kb of data so the data cost is minimal even while roaming abroad. Alternatively you can send SMS directly through the website as well and it will still be delivered from your own number.
