Default understanding voltage, plugs, conversions

Hey y'all, I'm in England! How exciting.

Coming from Canada, and I've got with me my ibook, and my canon powershot. I have a plug converter that will work with my cell phone but I've been using my friend's voltage converter to charge my laptop and camera batteries. My question is: how do I figure out if I need to use the voltage converter, or whether the plug converter will work fine? What are all these numbers, what do they mean, which are the important ones in this case, and how do I figure this out? Any information or advice?

I'm leaving the laptop here but taking the camera as I head to France and Spain. I don't want to lug a voltage converter around for my camera if the plug converter will work, since it weighs a lot less.

Thanks!

Molly

Somewhere on the transformer is should say voltage input and Hz. if it says 110/220 or 120/240 and 50/60 Hz it will work fine. if it says 110-120 60 Hz only than it you need a voltage converter.
In North America you find anywhere from 100 to 120 volts at 60 cycles a second. Many other places ,like Europe, will run 220 to 240 volts at 50 cycles a second. Most times electronic items are compatible with both, but not always.
If your not comfortable with deciding, take a picture of the writing and i can take a look.

Thank You! If I'm reading everything and understanding right, I shouldn't need the voltage adapter for either of these two devices. Awesome! I would greatly appreciate if you would confirm this for me anyway, because it would really suck to melt either of these while on the road.

The writing is too small to get a clear photo but this is what they say:

From the camera battery charger:

Input: 100V-240V AC 50-60Hz
0.1A(100V)
-0.06A(240V)
Output: 4.2V ---- 0.65A

And from the laptop plug:

Input: AC 100-240V 50-60 Hz
92-118VA
Output 24.5V --- 1.875A
AC Input: 1.2A ADP-45ZH V85

Thanks again!

Molly

Your good to go. They will work just about anywhere in the world.
