Working Overseas

Any good ways to get hook ups for working overseas from Canada? I want to work in a pub in the UK or anywhere eles in Europe for that matter.If anyone has any info about how to go about this please pass it on as I can so use it.

for any non-profesional job, your best bet would probably be go there and ask around. there are sites like, um, i think the link is www.gumtree.com, i think, that have job postings. do you want a visa? are you going to work under the table? these are questions you will have to ponder. i'm sure if you are more specific you will get better results from the more knowegable people on here. also, there are a few threads about this already, so there may be some useful info in those.

If you are 30yrs old or younger, you qualify for a Working Holiday Visa. It's good for two years but it is non-renewable (you can only apply once in your life). There's no restrictions whatsoever on what you can do or where. You only have to show that you plan on traveling while you're there (not really a problem).

There are several other countries that offer similar but more restrictive visas. Ireland has the same deal except for only one year. Australia and NZ have them as well but you can only work part-time jobs and only with the same employer for a maximum of 3 months to encourage travelling.

Those sort of visas are your best (and in a lot of cases, only) option for working in other countries if you don't have a degree or bankable experience.

In between IT contract work, I hope to work part time behind the bar myself. I'll let you know how it goes and how easy it is to find.

It's not just a matter of being Canadian, it's a matter of being a citizen of a Commonwealth country. Man, they have it good.

If you speak french, Canada has some historic sites in France that they hire Canadians to work at. I met some people in Italy who were doing that and had good things to say about it. I'm not sure where you can get information about it, but it's a program run by the government, so it shouldn't be too hard to find info on. I know one of the sites is "La Somme" (WW2 battle) so that might give you a starting place to look.

Also, I'm in the UK on a student visa now and have working priviledges. I'm not working (going into debt instead) but a friend of mine from Canada is and it wasn't too hard for her to find work in a pub. WE're not living in a major center though so that would make a difference.
