Im an American college student w/o much money, but I want to go back to europe, this time on my own. What's a good way to make several grand in a few months, where I would have limited expenses? I've heard about working the fisheries in Alaska, or offshore on boats also in Alaska. Another option is a cruise ship, but I know next to nothing about these enterprises despite spending hours on the internet looking. Has anyone ever done this? What advice do you have of when and where to get work? Or does anyone else know of something different/safer than fishing vessels?
Thanx everyone

You can make serious bank working on a fishing boat in Alaska. I was there this past summer and from what I heard it is common for people to do that during salmon season and then take off travelling after that with the money they've earned. Salmon season begins in June or July I think and runs until about October. This type of job used to be even more lucrative than it is now, but there is still pleanty of money to be made up there.

It really is just vast untouched wilderness, and I was even in an area known to be somewhat commercialized. It is much like I imagine the American frontier used to be like, with isolated pockets of civilization scattered about. Even the people are how you would imagine frontier folk might have been like. They are in occupations such as logging, fishing, mining - real 19th century type jobs that we forget are even still around back here, yet are essential to our way of life.
