Has anyone done or know anyone who has worked in the industry. I am looking at doing an overseas holiday and am doing my divemasters at the moment. I am planning to do my commerical ticket before i go overseas but it is a huge financial commitment so i am interested to see if anyone has done this work before.

Would love to do work in the North Sea so please contact us if you have any info.

P.S i know this is probably a long shot but hay i meet hit gold so it is worth a try

You're in Australia, right? Well, I'm not sure how it works there, but for the US this is what it's like:

I know someone (an ex) who is a commercial diver. He enjoys it but it's very difficult (not to mention very dangerous) work and it takes a LONG time to get to the point where you're making really good money with it. Usually after training you get shipped off to an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico to work as an intern, *maybe* getting into the water once a month if you're lucky... you put in your time doing that for a year or two at around $10-$15 per hour and then you'll start doing more serious work that pays better. That's the case for almost all commercial dive school grads in the US.

But like I said, I don't know how it works in Australia. Good luck!

Thanks SV i am trying to find out as much as possible. Obviously your Ex worked as an attendant to the divers which i keep hearing about. I keep hearing different stories from people and most contradict each other about where work is at the minute.

Once again thanks for your time SV

No, actually he IS a commercial diver, it's just that there are so many people wanting to do the work (in the US) that you have to "wait your turn", so to speak, when you first get out of dive school. Put your time in the trenches and work your way up as you get more experience.

You're welcome!
