Know anyone who's been a flight attendant or something like that? I started messing around the Emirate Airline website because I saw something on the travel channel about the ceilings in their first class cabins reflecting the skies of the destinations. Neither here nor there... Have toyed with the idea of working on flights, I looooove flying and seems like an interesting short term job. They seem to have a really good package, put you up in Dubai, $$, etc. Anyway just rambling here I guess. http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com/

I have actually even considered doing this just to get some travel in and make cash. But kinda forgot about it. I hear they are supposed to actually have a good program. They advertise here in the paper all the time.

Yes and it was very encouraging that they give preference to people who can speak other languages. (duh stephanie) And also encouraging that there is only one US destination.

I think that it would be awesome!! I've heard a lot of stories about Emerites and it sounds really nice, I saw a picture of the inside and economy was all decked out and everything, haha.

but yea, seriously, this would have SOOO many opportunities. you'd be living IN dubai, the coolest city in the world, while also traveling around the world. my dad's a pilot and it's like international law that with flights over a certain amount of hours(anything long haul, I forget the exact number, so almost all of emerites flights) require at least a 24 hour rest period(it's usually 30 though), so you'd get a little over a day in a nice hotel in cities all around the world!! looks like they fly to a lot of places so it sounds like a lot of fun!! haha breakfast in dubai and dinner in paris, can't pass that up! also, oz and nz, south africa, morocco, all around europe, the middle east, the far east, india, sweet!! haha.

if they're hiring i'd take it! plus! you'd be able to meet tons of interesting people on the plane too! haha. and living in dubai, you could eventually become fluent in arabic!! and maybe another language while you travel. my dad's pilot friend, they go to paris twice a week and his friend is trying to become fluent in french with all the time that he's there. he's studying some each time before he goes then he goes there and uses it, he's been doing it for almost a year and he's really good at having conversations and stuff now.

also, i dont know if this applys for flight attendants(im pretty sure it does), but with pilots they get ID-90's which are these awesome things that you can use or give to anyone in your family that take off 90% of airfare on ANY airline, the only catch is that if there arent any empty seats you cant get on, but most of the time there are seats and ends up working out. I flew buissness class to paris and back twice($100 each way).

My aunt used to be a flight attendant when she was younger and my grandparents used that to go all over the world (they have a "been-to" map that any of us would drool over). At least with US companies, your parents and children fly for only the cost of taxes, and then you get a number of "buddy passes" per year.

That's about all I know about it except that my aunt says it used to be better back in the day cuz they got much longer layovers where you would actually have a chance to see a place but that now it's all money driven and they just want to run as many planes as possible.

Yeah Im thinking of like being a travel consultant for a year, save money, use them to get a cheap flight and then knicking off somewhere. Sounds like a plan.

We call them travel agents. I reckon their job would be pretty boring just sitting at a desk booking flights really.

The attendents job sounds a lot more interesting, although i wouldnt want to be away from Oz for most of the year. Dont get me wrong i love the world, just like to Oz my home.

I would snap as a travel agent I would so wanna be going too the places Im booking. Anyways that Emirates thing sounds like the bees knees (you like that ) I thought being a flight attendent wouldent be a bad thing, however then I realized they do the same thing over and over again all day long and that would bore me, plus as much as I love traveling I hate flying

haha flight attendants on most big planes have this thing above the passenger thing and above all that storage thing where they can take a 3 hour break. there's like a bunch of big beds. so if you're wondering where your flight attendant might be...haha. that's only on long flights though(+5/6 Hours)

Thanks for the post bellelass...I actually recommended it to my friend who submitted her resume for West Jet here in Canada but was denied a work permit by CIC. She's originally from South Africa, so this would be right up her alley since Emirates flies to S.A.

I've thought about it as well for myself, but I don't know if I could commit to a 3 year contract without first experiencing the life and financials of it all. We'll see though! I like to travel too much to automatically rule something like this out...plus Dubai seems like such a fun and exciting place to live.

I just talked to someone who....somehow knows a lot about Emerites...*shrugs* and he said:

"Don't even think about it[applying at Emerites] if you don't know Arabic."

He had to go, but I'll ask him more about it next time.
