Short travel documentary on Syria
 

Hey this is short travel doc on Syria done by a friend of mine (she's from Montreal and she's Syrian) a while back.

That was really good....if anyoen watches it after it's done go to youtube for part 2 as well.

What a great documentary/introduction to Syria. I do want to travel there for obvious reasons, but am very apprehensive because I am an American. Is this a valid reason?

I would be lying if I said that it's a myth that they don't like Americans - there's a general anti-Americanism there. (there's quite a bit up here in Canada too!)

BUT that was under Bush and not Obama, and Syrians are generally friendly to anyone who is friendly to them. I met tons of Westerners, Americans, Brits, Kiwis who traveled through Syria no problems.

Also, Syria is one of the safest places in the Middle East because of the prevalence of the security services. They say you can leave your purse on the bus bench for a day, and nothing will happen to it, because everyone is afraid everyone is a secret police - who want nothing to happen to foreigners - Syria recieves bad press as it is.

Thanks for the advice. It seems like such a travelers paradise, yet a bit dangerous. My wife and I are not ones to get into trouble, but it does happen. Anyhow, still a really cool video (returning to original programing!)
