Default Can anyone recommend any good working Hostels in Oz?

Hi all

I'm in the middle of my WHV is Aus, and having an absolute ball!!! :D

I have already done 4 weeks banana picking in Innisfail which was awesome!

What i am after now is another recommendation for fruit picking, where they pay you BY THE HOUR, preferrably in VIC or WA.

I am in Melbourne at the mo and so far all the work around here is by the bucket load and pretty rubbish!

So your help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers!

Glad to hear you're having such a great time. Do you have to share by any chance ?...

I've checked "work your way around the world" and the author seems to think they pay by tin, by bucket or by weight. She never mentions by the hour, and to be honest, I've never heard of harvest picking paid by the hour in Canada either.

There's a specialised booklet called "Fruit picking around Australia" that you could get from Pickpack or other stores for about A$10. According to the author, it is sort of a bible for workers of the field.

Good luck !

Ah hello!!!! I didn't know you are in Innisfail! I am living in Cairns now so you are right by me! I have a friend of mine who is doing that now! I will try and get ahold of her.

But the only hostels I really know that you can work at are the one in Cairns as I haven't gone much furthur than here backpacking, but Serpent and sometimes Asylum need people to drive the bus and such.

I will get ahold of you if I figure out where she went to do hers. If you can, go to the BUNAC office in Melbourne:

Level 3, 362 La Trobe Street
Melbourne VIC 3000
T: (03) 9329 3866

Is their contact details. Even if you aren't part of BUNAC they can really help with some placement.

Good luck!!
