That sucks...things like that should be taken better care of. When I was in Malta one of the neolythic temples (oldest known man-made structures) was spray painted by some idiot It makes me sick when people don't appreciate the value of such things

It is sad. I hope the Peruvian government do the right thing to preserve this historic site.

I want it to be intact when I make there one day!

I didn't see anything in the article about the ludicrous idea of installing cable cars to take people to the summit. That surfaced a couple years ago in response to supposed polution problems from so many vehicles driving up to Macchu Picchu. Yep, nothing like a big giant steel tower to blend in with a gorgeous ancient site...

I sympathize with the Peruvian government, though. It's their tourism cash cow and you can't blame them for wanting to take advantage of it. Nor the locals from wanting to make a living off the thousands who come to see it. I plan on being one of those thousands, eventually...
