CARNAVAL.... WHAT IT MEANS AND HOW TO CELEBRATE IT
The word Carnaval itself bests describes this worldwide holiday. It is
derived from two Latin words namely, carne(meat) and levare (to take
away, as from the table). It is an ancient festival which traditionally
precedes the start of the 40 day Lenten fasting season and whose meaning can be
summed up in the phrase "FEAST TODAY, FOR TOMORROW WE FAST."
As far as what to wear for the Carnaval Ball, the broadest answer would
be "anything that would make you feel good with yourself ". In line
with the history of Carnaval, the four day event should permit you be
and act as someone you are not during the rest of the year and wear
anything festive that you would not dare to use normally, whether it be a
masquerade, costume of any type, clown, princess, belly dancer, etc.
etc. or better yet.....something of your own imaginative creation.... a
mask or both...or even formal wear if you like.
The true concept of Carnaval is intended to be a role changing event
to free us, for four short days, of the constraints that control us
during our normal every day life.
While some believe that the Carnaval period permits us to be a bit
insane for four days of the year....the opposite opinion is that these
four days may be the only sane days of the year.
Carnaval is theatre and myth at its best and those that participate in
it are the actors and the prime, creative innovators of the event
which, when combined with the dynamic and pulsating rhythms of Alo Brasil, can
only result in an unforgettable and joyous evening. See you there and...
"Um Bom Carnaval Para Todos"!!!!!!!!
