I'm headed to Patagonia as my old topic states- but will be either buying a motorcycle or finding some means up from Argentina to at least Costa Rica, where I have a good friend who might get me a place ticket the rest of the way dirt cheap who knows. I have very important questions-
For a trip up from argentina back to the US, what are some things I need that may not be obvious but will be essential in my travels? I'm going in the most stripped down way possible, but I also want to havve all my bases covered a smuch as possible.
What would a good route be to take? any suggestions? I want to spend a good amount of time in the rainforest region- whag concerns should I have?
Any info you guys have would be great, and like I said, I'm leaving in just a couple days!!!
Thanks!
Rob

I haven't been to SA, so can't give you any specifics, just the general biggies -

1. meds - do you need any shots before you go? Or any that you'll need while you're away?

2. docs - make copies of passport, tix, etc to leave with family, not a terrible idea to take along a copy in case your stuff doesn't end up in the same place you do...

3. $$$ - have some sort of extra backup resource just in case

4. Travel insurance - getting sick or injured on the road can be a very costly ordeal.

5. It's hard in the excitement/stress pre trip, but try to get some relaxing time in so that you start of the trip in the best possible state of mind/body.

Have a blast, and enjoy - and hopefully you'll get more specific practical tips here in the next day or two!

Your plans sound so, so exciting! Just see where the wind takes you!! I've spent time in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay so feel free to me questions about those places.

Definitely take a Swiss army knife...always comes in handy.

to enter brazil you must have yellow feber vaccine at least five days before you enter the country. also some nacionalities need a visa to enter that country.
you can follow the via panamericana to go all the way up to canada if you want, the only part where its cut is the very border between colombia and panama, however from cartagena, colombia you can take a boat to panama it costs like 300 americans or less, and its four days of nonstop party and nice meals!
