Default Places reserved for RTW trips

Hi gang,

I am still trying to decide on an Alliance (leaning towards Sky Team but Star Alliance is right there). Some destinations are ridiculously expensive if you are using anything other than miles so I thought I'd create this thread to list some places that aren't practical but are accessible via an RTW ticket/FF mileage.

Longyearbyen - Spitsbergen, Norway SAS flies there (Star Alliance) - Most northern piece of land in the world I believe and ridiculously expensive to travel there.

Easter Island, Chile - LAN flies there (One World). The only island between Chile and Fiji, rates seemed reasonable on their site but it may be a two tier pricing for Chileans vs Tourists...

Anything else you can think of would be appreciated

Clipperton Island comes to mind off the top of my head. Although it's a small deserted island and a plane certainly wouldn't fly there.

Yeah I should have rephrased that. It is the only stop from Santiago to Fiji.

Pitcairn islands are also in the neighborhood (forget which side of Easter Island it is)

This thread is a really good idea.

My Indian coworkers are always complaining that you can't get a flight to India that doesn't cost several thousand dollars (from the US anyway). I don't know if they're right or just complainers though

I just priced a flight to Brunei after Ali mentioned it and because of some caves in Borneo I saw on TV and it was 2-3k from the US. But with round the world maybe some of these places are not a problem if you fly there starting more from the same region. Are easter island and Longyearbyen a problem if you're already in south america/scandanavia?

Yeah, a flight to Longyear Byen is about 500 dollars from Oslo so yeah it isn't real practical unless you can get a deal like this. The same price is true for Easter Island. Both can get upwards of 700-800 USD for people that aren't infinitely flexible.
