Hey y'all, I have been a lurker for quite some time and am getting ready to take the plunge and go on my first trip to europe. My other commitments this coming summer are limiting my travel time to a little over 2 weeks so I have decided to focus on France and Spain this trip. Below is a tenative itinerary. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have with regards to how much time I should be spending in each spot as well as what to do while I am there.
Sunday, May 15, 2005 - Depart home
Monday, May 16 - Arrive Paris around 11:00am
Tuesday, May 17 - Paris
Wednesday, May 18 - Paris
Thursday, May 19 - Paris-Nice (Should I travel during the day so I have the night in Nice or should I take an overnight train so I can use all of Thursday in Paris?)
Friday, May 20 - Nice
Saturday, May 21 - Nice
Sunday, May 22 - Train from Nice to Barcelona with 5 hour layover in Montpellier
Monday, May 23 - Barcelona
Tuesday, May 24 - Barcelona
Wednesday, May 25 Barcelona-Ibiza (Flying to Ibiza about 8:00pm)
Thursday, May 26 - Ibiza
Friday, May 27 - Ibiza
Saturday, May 28 - Ibiza-Madrid (Flying to Madrid midday)
Sunday, May 29 - Madrid
Monday, May 30 - Madrid
Tuesday, May 21 - Madrid
Wednesday, May 22 - Return Home (Depart Madrid around noon)

Looks pretty good - although my own taste is to spend at least 5 days in each city... well, except maybe Ibiza. I'd want to come back w/ some money in my wallet and functioning brain cells
I'd take a little bit of extra time in Paris and hop on a night train to Nice. Paris is huuuuge and has lots to see, and even in 3 days you won't have covered everything.

I think it looks good, kholtz. You didn't fall into the trap of doing one day in each city to try to maximize the places you see, supposedly. All that does is maximize the time you spend in transit, as opposed to actually seeing and experiencing things.

Yeah, that looks good. You can make up your mind while you're in Paris if you'd like to spend a few more hours there and take a night train to Nice. The train ride is really pretty though-- and really fast-- almost 200mph if I remember correctly.
Oh, and that 5-hour layover in Montpellier is a perfect amount of time to spend wandering around that city! The city's main plaza is only about 10 blocks north of the train station. It's a lovely place if you don't have to spend the night. *grumble*

No, I'm saying I'D have very little grey matter left after a trip to Ibiza. I'm bad enough after hitting the clubs at home!

If that is the case, I think I will take Ibiza off my itinerary.
What about my other city selections? I understand the last two weeks of May is a bit early for most backpackers, but I figured there would still be a fair amount of people beginning their travels. Are my assumptions correct? I just want to meet some fun people to hang out with while I am there... cause I am going alone.

Nope. There are plenty of backpackers anytime. The only thing you may be missing out on during May are the high school kids because they don't get out til June. (And personally, no offense to any high school kids, I'm perfectly happy to travel when there are NOT hordes of 'em. )
