I have been lookin at my itinerary, and the way i have it now (a section of it)

3 night munich
4 nights paris
2 nigths Cinque Terre
4 Nights Venice
4 Nights Florence
Then Rome

I was thinking I should spend more time in Rome and Paris than the others right?

Like at least 5 nigths paris??

Should i shorten or not even go to any of them? Like Munich? I dont know of anything in munich.

I dunno, what do you think?I was thinking 2 nights Venice, and like 3 or less florence???

What do you think?

I think with 3 nights in Florence, and 1 or 2 in Venice you'll be fine. Perhaps you could spend an extra day in Munich and take a day trip to Füssen. I've heard it's a lovely little town, just south of Munich, and very close by is this caslte:

I've always wanted to go there! Of course I dont know what your interests are... but I always thought it'd be fantastic to make it here... And it looks like you may have enough days to make it!

Yeah, I loved Venice, but I think 4 days is more than you need. I'd add one to Paris and one to Florence, if it were me.

Wow that castle is badass.

Anyone know of any castles like that around berlin paris or any of those other places that are pretty easily accessible?

florencia9699 05-03-2006 12:55 AM

Yes, actually, there is anothe that is close to Füsen, and to the Neuschwanstein Castle (photo above): King Ludwig of Bavaria and in Germany there is the Romantic road I think, that has all sorts of castles. You can check out here the German Castles.

Also there are castles and chateaux just south of Paris, close by to a town called Tours. Just google it up you'll see a lot of information. Or ask SimplyAngelic who's actually taken a tour of this place.

Ah the Neuschwanstein Castle, that's the one they used to come up with the disney castle!! You know, i was in Munich for 5 days and i didn't see it, i didn't realise it was so close until i had left....lesson - research your destinations

I think you're spending too much time in Venice, i'd cut it down to 1 ot 2 nights if i was you. And yes you need a lot of time in Rome, i spent 7 days there and still didn't see all i wanted. I think the cities you have on there are good, they're Europe hotspots so there'll definately be heaps to see and do.

As far as Munich goes i loved the place, there's the Hofbrau House - biggest beer hall in the world, a heap of other awsome beer halls, excellent food, Dachau concentration camp, a whole heap of Hitler history - it's where he started his campaign, a palace full of jewels, a place to surf (i'm not kidding), the world's biggest glockenspiel - this thing is halariously rediculous (no offense to any Germans), Neuschwanstein Castle......and the list goes on. Now, it's not as bigger drawcard as Rome, but it's well worth a visit IMO.

There are castles all over Germany (well Europe for that matter). You can go into some off the beaten path cities and still see some amazing things. My brother in law and his wife are living in Idar-Oberstein Germany on top of a huge hill (small mountain  ) and there are walking trails into town. We'd hike around those and they had the remnants of an old castle and then the new castle and towards the bottom of a hiking trail a church built in the side of the cliff. It was utterly amazing. http://belfast.peterski.com/albums/a...0/100_2192.jpg

Sounds like a heck of a trip! I definately second the opinion that you should do as much research as possible before you leave so you don't miss something great. Rome has so much to see that I'm sure no matter how much time you allocate to the city you'll wish you had more. As for Paris, there are two types of people out there when they visit - those who love it and those who hate it. i loved it and I'm definately going to go back and spend min 4-5 days there to see all the other stuff I missed out the first time around.

Another thing I found is that when I travel 3 nights is a minimum I like to have in a given location (unless it's simply a stop along the way). This way after 3-8hrs of travel on the first day you can find your hostel, settle in, grab a shower AND still go out on the first night. Second day is for sightseeing, getting familiar with the city, meeting some people and partying at night. Third day is a bit more calm and I usually like to soak in the athmosphere of the city - do something cultural, visit a specific museum or church, sit around at an outdoor cafe and sip my coffee for two hrs, talk with some locals or have a picnic lunch at a park and watch the locals play soccer. I know it sounds like a waste of time, but after the hectic pace of traveling and sightseeing it's a day of relaxation for me.

I guess what I'm trying to say is be realistic about your intenirary - if you try to see too much too fast you will be exhausted and it may all start to blur after a while. Either way the cities you picked sound great and I'm sure you will have a blast!

Jamie, you brother-in-law's in Idar-Oberstein?! My daughter's Grade 4 class is taking a three day field trip there later this month, it looks amazing. They're going to check out the geological formations and fossils, she tells me. At least, that's what she's excited about. Guess I better get her a camera, though, eh?
