So....I moved into a new house last year and unbeknownst to me, the end of my street is one of those neighborhoods that becomes a spectacle come Christmas. There are a group of houses that cover every square inch of the house, roof, fence and lawn with lights, full size figurines, inflatable Santa's and Frosty's, whirling thingees...you name it. Think the Grizwold house in Christmas Vacation...and I am not exagerating. I cannot drive down that end of the street because traffic gets clogged at night from spectators.

Luckily, my end of the street is the more conservative folks who just put out a few things here and there, most are not even lit up. My personal taste is a few white lights here and there. I do not go in for big garish displays. I get a huge kick out of the big garish displays but would never do something like that to my house. Just curious what other people think.

Gawd, I hate it when a house looks like Christmas threw up on it.

I've always been a proponent of the classy, subdued white lights, although the "icicle" variant isn't too offensive, either.

Sometimes I'm glad I live in a heathen, godless town - I don't have to put up with the spectacle of entire houses covered in seasonal decorations, just a few here and there. Whereas when I'm in the suburbs at night around this time of year, I want to gouge my own eyes out with whatever implement is close at hand.

I just moved into a house too and was looking originally at doing lights, although it hasn't really happend yet. I did get a tree but the other houses on my street if anything are very low key. Maybe it various on how busy of a street you live on, mine is pretty quiete, except for us hehe.

I enjoy seeing how creative people get. I know personally that my house has always been decorated well, but some of my friends houses had people actually come in and put stuff up for them. absolute insanity, but it is nice to see their house from 12 miles away because of the lights.

When I end up getting a house, I plan on going all out. For Halloween too, probably more so. I get into shit like that. I tried putting up lights on my apartment balcony but it just looked too pathetic so I stopped plugging them in.

We're usually too lazy to hang up Christmas lights and if we do, it's subtle, but on other peoples' houses, the more the merrier.

For spirit week this year, a bunch of guys decided to actually WEAR them... it was hilarioud because they had these littlem otor things in 'em and if you walked too close to them you could hear it...

i can't imagine actually having a class with them and have to take a test or something... i would quickly go insane...

Is there something 'odd' about this thread? Everyday it appears in my list of new posts....yet there has not been a new post in three days???? Could it be a Christmas miracle??
