i was cleaning my closet and i was filling up plastic containers with the few things i didnt throw away or decide to sell, and i remembered when i was helping my brother out with those things when he left. he was gone for about 2 years, and i hope to be gone for at least a year. i started wondering, whats the longest most people have been backpacking or traveling? so i started a tpunk poll!!!!

I think I just barely squeak into the 7 month column on my backpacking trip to Europe after graduating High School. The months I spent living on a kibbutz in Israel were nice padding to the number...!
After that, I'd have to say 5 weeks was the longest I was gone traveling...

I left for Europe with the plan of being in Malta for 5 months and then traveling around for another month or two...turned into 5 years living there.

Patheticly, I've only travelled for a week to a resort!
I'm doin europe this summer. I planned on 2 months, but now it's lookin like a month or less
How do you guys afford to travel for so long? especially when you're just out of high school? I've been busting me ass for this trip. Is everyone here rich?

2 jobs, spending about 10 or 20 dollars a week, and not being afraid to work when on the road. of course, thats a long term trip when traveling domestically, so its different for everyone, really. but no...im pretty sure this is the most destitute message board you could ever find

Prior to my trip I was working two jobs (minimum 45 hours a week, high paying shift work and sometimes double shifts) and living with the parents.

Ummm, hate to break it to you, but I don't think the pub actually STEALS your money. You give it to them voluntarily!!

Thats not true. Everytime you ask for a new beer they just take it. Bastards. B)
Well, for the money issue we're not exactly rich, but we're not destitute either. Jake has a very well paying job. I don't work but go to college full time so I get financial aid. We also saved our entire tax return and we're planning on working as we go over in Europe. We're going to stay as long as we can/want to.

At what point is it no longer traveling?
I've done a week and a half and i'm hoping to do 3-4 months this summer.
