Default USA Hostels - Hollywood

Recently when my mom and I went to LA, we were on a super tight budget, so we stayed in a hostel. We did a private room (first time I'd ever done a private room in a hostel LOL). The private rooms were NICE... very clean, a huge flatscreen HD TV with a gazillion channels (nice when you're jet-lagged and wide-awake at 5am but nothing outside is open).

The hostel itself is very chill, they have all sorts of events going on you can sign up for. The staff knows pretty much everything there is to know about LA in general, and anything cool you might want to see. It's located off of Hollywood Blvd - so perfect location. Also it's off of Sunset, coming the other direction. Getting there from LAX is SUPER cheap if you take the flyaway bus to the metro station and then get on the red line... when you get to the hostel if you save your bus/metro tix, they refund you all of it... so you can either get there for free with mass transit, or you can take a cab and pay a minimum of $50. Yeah.

When you leave you can do the airport shuttle too if you don't feel like relying on mass transit... and that's $16 (not bad if you consider that you didn't pay for trans there in the first place). They also have sister hostels in San Francisco and one on the beach and there are free shuttles to those (nice if you're checking out the CA area and stay at all of them.

There's free 30 min of internet (with a printer if you need it), free wireless, and free breakfast in the morning (it's either oatmeal or "make your own pancakes", then free coffee and tea). Nice patio area, cheap beer at their bar, and just all-in-all a great crowd. My mom was always an early riser so Id wake up and find her downstairs chatting with some backpackers outside on the patio. LOL!

Anyway, def stay there if you want to stay in Hollywood (or the LA area in general...Hollywood is pretty central, in my opinion, to a lot of stuff).

Huh... My expectations of a Hollywood hostel were muuuuuuuch lower. I'm actually very glad to hear that!

Yep! I was deciding between there and Banana Bungalow (which is apparently more of a party hostel than this one), and either way had SUPER low expectations of a hostel in LA in general, and was very nervous bringing my mom there, but it was all good surprisingly. I mean it's a great location, Hollywood is dirty and gross and reeks like urine, but for backpackers I'm sure it's great and it's pretty central to other shit, so whatev.

It more than served its purpose!

Thanks for the review, Nic! Yeah, Hollywood is pretty dirty all he way around, but parts of it have improved throughout the last 10 years I must say. Especially around Hollywood and Vine.

Sounds like you scored !
