Cool

looks like I'm gonna be backpacking the Nile river on the 4th of May for 10 days...starting in Cairo and working my way down by train to Luxor, then hopping a cruiser that will sail for four days from Luxor to Aswan with frequent stops and tours, riding a felluca (sailboat) in Aswan at sunset, then disembarking the next day and hopping a plane to Abu Simbel at the Sudan border, then riding a train back to Cairo for a couple free days before flying back here.

So...in summation, the whole length of the Nile from Cairo to Sudan and back by train, prop plane, sailboat and cruiser I'm stoked man!

Anyone going to be in Egypt between May 4 and May 14th?

Anyway, expect plenty of pictures and stories as usual from your official Tpunk Middle East correspondent :P

Awesome, Devon! Have a great time, and I look forward to your report. Believe it or not, I haven't made it to Egypt, yet...

Congrats! I'm new to the board and I actually found this site while researching a trip to Egypt. I was looking at going in Sept. but I'm thinking of moving up to May now. Are you going with a tour group or by yourself? If it's a tour, which company?

Happy Travels!

Hi and welcome to the boards!

I booked the trip with a local booking company...I'm not really going in an organized tour so much as traveling alone and hooking up with a myriad of small organized groups along the way for some of the spots...whereas some, such as Abu Simbel, are probably just me or me and 2 or 3 people (said company got me good deals on certain small or exclusive tour companies and train tickets/hotel and ship rooms all as one big package). When in May are you thinking of going, and where are you planning on seeing?

Personally, if I didnt find this particular company which affords me a certain level of independence on my trip while still getting me the benefit of an itinerary as well as good deals, I would have done it by myself, but it really depends on personal preference. Are there particular tour plans/companies you're looking at?

Again, welcome! Let me know and I'll do my best to help you with info.

sounds amazing...egypt has been a dream trip for me and i had an opportunity to go with an ex girlfriend and stay with her family for a month in high school but we ended up breaking up and she didn't even go...although i did consider asking her if i could still go stay with her family in Cairo. haha

good luck! can't wait for pics

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I've been checking out adventure travel packages because they seem to offer the best of everything. Small groups (no more than 18 people) , but a group none-the-less, they visit all the major sites and all accomodation and transportation is included, plus quite a few meals. And you also get a little free time on your own here and there throughout the trip.

The package I have my eye on is the Nile Adventure through Geckos Grassroots Adventures. I'd start in Cairo, then take a train to Luxor, then a riverboat cruise to Aswan, then another train back to Cairo. 10 days total.

They have a trip from May 19 - 28, but I don't think I'll do that one. If you haven't guessed by my screen name, I'm female and unfortunately those dates span my monthly curse. Really don't want to travel during that time, so I think taking the trip they have from June 2 - 11 would be better for me. Late May early June is the soonest I can get time off work.

Thanks again, sorry if TMI on the curse thing.

Thats so awesome! I'll be in egypt on the 31st, I'll just miss you. Maybe we could try to meet up sometime in Israel? I'm with a school group but I think we have some sort of free time. Tpunk meetup in the holy land.... I like it...

Hmm..

I might have to leave for the States toward the end of May or early June; when are you planning on coming here?

It would be cool to have a meetup in the holy land though But that might not be possible this time around

I was thinking of organizing a Tpunk mass exodus to a kibbutz though for like 3 months...sometime next year or something
