Urgent medical question
This is a rather frightening first post, but I'm currently traveling with my mother, and we are catching a chunnel train to Paris today. She's been having abdominal pains, and we suspect it might be the beginnings of appendicitis.
So if anyone has any information about what an American should do to find some medical help in France it would be most helpful. I know some basics about how their system works, but I know there's bound to be more to it.
Again, any information would be helpful...
Thanks.

I'm not sure about anything to do with insurance or anything specific like that, but when I was travelling with my friend, he started to feel sick on the way to Berlin and when we arrived at the train station we went straight to the chemist and they were able to help us with directions to a nearby hospital with english-speaking doctors. I've used this tactic elsewhere too, I've just found that chemists are much easier to find than doctor's offices or hospitals, and they are always able to help

I really don't have any answers for you but there was a hospital right next door to gare de nord where the euro star is stationed.

Unless you have extremely good insurance, you may want to hop the next flight home. My aunt had appendicitis and it was scary as hell. It was misdiagnosed and it almost resulted in her dying (she lost about 60 lbs and was looking really gaunt)

Like everyone else mentioned, hope everything turns out ok. If I was in this situation, I would be on the phone with the people at my travel insurance (HOPE YOU HAVE IT!!) and see where they direct me. They will be able to tell you exactly what your coverage will give you and whether you should go to the hospital or look into flying home. I had appendicitis as a teenager and while I was in a Canadian hospital in my hometown, it was still not a pleasant experience.
good luck and keep us posted.
