OK folks, this is mucho important....
(And I am not talking sun screen) </span>
Through out your travels you may encounter a lov'ly guy or girl who tickles your fancy enough for you to put out a little som'n som'n, some other terms for this is, shag, fuc, make love, bump uglies, do the nasty, horisontal mambo, bang, screw, play doctor....
It is very nessisary in this day and age for us to wear condoms when having sex, expecially spure of the moment sex, you know what I am talking about, few drinks at the bar and WHAM-O, naked city!!!!
Bring some rubbers with you from home, keep them on you, guys and girls, you have to protect yourself from some pretty nasty STD's that are out there. The last thing you need is a case of Gonorrhea to ruin your trip.
<img src=\'http://www.friendtofriend.org/condoms.jpg\' border=\'0\' alt=\'user posted image\' />
here is a link that will give you 411 on all that nasty crap that could be prevented if you just WEAR A DOME or MAKE HIM WEAR A DOME
<span style=\'color:red\'><a href=\'http://www.i-std.com/\' rel="nofollow" target=\'_blank\'>STD INFO</a>
Please oh please do not think I am being a "mother" about this, its just I had a friend ruin his life from a "one night stand"

Yes the last thing we need is little canadian dudes running around
And may I add...I think all girls should go on the pill or on someother kind of birth control (depo etc..) I don't care if you have a boyfriend of a gazillion years and you'd never sleep with another guy blah blah...Truth is YOU NEVER KNOW! so be prepared. It won't hurt you (in fact it helps regulate your period, which is good when travelling) so why not be safe? Drinking, beaches, sun all = horny people. so be safe!

Protection, as much as I hate wear´n em , is the right thing B) Bring home fun memories, photos, and souvenirs, NOT DISEASES
and don´t forget to protect your feet while you´re at it, with some cheap 99 cents flip flops. Hostel baños can have nasty fungi lurking on the floors

dio, although the pill seems like a quick solution, imagine travelling around in different time zones, trying to figure out when you're supposed to take it. it's a pain in the ass in my own time zone, not to mention another! i suggest either packin' some durex's or going down to the women's clinic, or family doctor and asking what the right solution for you is.

i dunno. It ain't that hard. I travelled with it. You just have to do a simple calculation (for when you go over there) and then adapt to it along the way. trust me if I could do it (sucks at math) than you can. Better for it to be a "pain in the ass" than to have a "pain in your uterus" yah know.

I was thinking about the shot... but what happens when I'm gone more than three months? Does anyone know if it's available in europe? and how an american would go about getting it.

I would speak to your own doctor about it, and if he agrees to write you a perscription for it, I can see why an over seas Dr. would not inject ya with it...unless that drug is not accepted by the country that your in.
Your Dr. would know best.

The shot you guys are talking about is called Depo-Vera(spelling may be a bit off).
It last for 3 monthes but also comes with some annoying side effects. First off, you need to get the shot the first 5 days of your period. So if you are leaving before then it will be a problem. Also the first time you get the shot the chances are very high that your period will be irregular. This means occasionally spotting even when it's nowhere near that time of the month. Which is a major downer if your leaving right away. These results aren't what everyone expierences though so you could not have any problems at all. But after the first 3 monthes and your 2nd shot your period will be no more. Unless you stop getting the shot in which case the cycle will art as normal.
On the plus side Depo is the most effective birth control method available. I believe it's 99.7or so percent effective. Meaning that if 1,000 women use Depo correctly for one year only 3 wilbecome pregnant. Which is super small compared to the pill's
95 to 99% rate.
It's up to you what to do. Talk to your doctor about it.

My friend got human immunodeficiency virus OR in simple terms...HIV from shag'n with out a dome on his little friend down there. He was trek'n the way we do and met a chick in a bar slept with her with out protection and now he is living with this terrible thing....I don't see him much any more, he has become a house hermit. A life time of hurt is not worth a couple hours of fun. Be afraid, be very afraid!

I don't know your friend's circumstances, but AIDs and HIV are extremely hard to catch through heterosexual sex. Us in the general population have been somewhat mislead as to the threat we face from it, for various reasons. Of course there are pleanty of other horrible maladies that are much easier to catch, so condom use should be a given.

Yeah I agree talk to your doctors!!!
My personal take on the whole contraception thang however is to think twice before choosing hormonal modes of preventing pregnancy. Pills and shots might be an easy answer, but the side effects, possible correlation to cancer of the female sexual organs and the general artificiality of it (fucking with your natural physical and emotional cycles) made me think twice about 3 years ago...after 5 years of use...and I haven't looked back since.
Research on google or talk to a naturopath who specialises in women's issues, there's heaps of alternative info out there.
To me, being on hormonal contraceptives means that you are MORE LIKELY to practice unsafe sex, made more dangerous by the fact that you are travelling, possibly drunk at some skanky backpacker nightclub and thus probably about to shag a complete stranger. Weigh it up. It ain't just about trying not to be preggers. STI's are NASTY baby, some have lifelong consequences and some are really, really dangerous. Check that. You don't want one of them.
The solution?? Take a look at CD's pretty pictures at the top of this thread and
PACK YR LITTLE RUBBER FRIENDS PEOPLE!!!
Alternatively, be chaste little angels
You lot? I don't think so

Hrmmm.. I've read on many a packet of flavored rubber that they're NOT good for contraception or preventing disease, but are rather just a novelty item. Doesn't seem to stop the bars (and some hostels) from having them in the bathroom, but I'd rather go with the option I know is safe.
