My recommendations for France are to head ye down to Provence. Out of season, but probably a bit warmer in the south than the north...should be cool. Maybe go check out the medieval ruins at Carcassonne...

No point in bringing the lighters they'll be taken off you unless they're in your check in luggage.

Just in case it's a nice lighter, I've seen some very valuable zippos thrown in bins because of this rule.
