Hi Everyone!
Discovered your site last night, and I must say, I'm impressed! Was feeling very woeful, having just ended a two and a half year relationship on Thursday, moved back home with my parents, have no job, have no life (yes, I got alittle carried away with my glutinous self-pity thing, I could practically hear the violins) and stumbled across your little community here! Skimmed over the various posts, and all the while an idea was taking shape. Off to bed, but right back here today to join up and write my first post, and the idea has become action; I am going to take THE trip! You know THE trip? The one saved for with every spare penny, from as far back as you can remember. The one thing you would regret if you died not having fulfilled it. The one that you talk about, dream about, say 'one day when the timing's right...'. Well, I believe that day has come!
That's not to say I'm not shit-scarred. Mostly about the chance that this might be a failure, because for so long Ive been hanging out to do this one thing, my expectations are HUGE! But just gunna get out there and give it my best.
Looking for somone to plan and travel with, I'm just that sort of person, always prefer to do something with friends than alone. Wanting to leave in March 06, start in Asia, then after a few months head to Europe, then on to who knows where, working on the way as need arises, no set plan or time frame at this stage. Anyway, I've put a post in the travel buddy section so if anyone's interested in this very loose plan they can get in touch!
Briefly about me; 22 yo Aussie girl, part way through a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics, worked mostly in childcare, eldercare and disability work, love the beach; swimming, surfing, snorkelling, jogging etc. Like hikes and bushwalks, the outdoors. Also like to dance, cook and eat yummies, talk talk talk, and op-shop.
So, its awesome to join you all, look forward to getting to know fellow travel-enthusiasts!

Talking

Welcome to TP!
sorry to hear about the relationship and all but i'm sure it will get better. But congrats on the decision to finally make THE trip. It sounds very interesting. I know that i would love to start in Asia with you but infortunately i will still be in school in March because my semester doesn't end until May 15 or something. However, i will be leaving for Europe as soon as i get out of here in the spring and will probably be there till the end of June. if you are interested in meeting up along that leg of your journey I'd be happy accompany you. Let anybody know if you need help with anything. we are all here to help each other out. i have been doing tons of research lately so whatever you need. Good luck with the planning.

Welcome to T-punk! This is the place to be if you want to know about travelling. I've learned so much from these great people here and made some friends along the way. Where in Asia were you going to? I'm going to Taiwan next spring, maybe China and Japan as well. Let me know maybe we could meet up.

Congrats on 'THE trip'...

oddly enough, relationship woes brought thoughts of my 'THE trip' to mind myself! I wound up here, planning it, and found this community - a bunch of really great folks!

Life got in the way of the trip, for now, but it's no longer going to be a nebulous 'someday'... being here reminded me of what got lost in the middle of life, school, work and family, and showed me just how far from my original goals i'd drifted...

Take the trip, and don't go worrying too much about 'messing it up'... you're taking the trip, and the destination is flexible... remember that arriving at your destination is not the goal of the trip, and you'll do fine...

Welcome to the boards!

Dont worry about traveling alone. I am doing it now and you are never alone in hostels. It is very easy to get someone to do this and that with you. I have had many fellow travelers to walk the town with and share a few as well. Backpackers are always there for each other and look out for your fellow packa' as well.

I am currently in Budapest and love it here. It is also CHEAP too. Plan well, pack half as much stuff as you think you need and twice as much money. I will be in South America from Jan 11 until April 5 so if you travels take you there let me know!

Awww guys!!!
Ewes are too noice! You wouldn't belive how good I'm feeling now, one week on and everything has turned around completely! I'm just starting to do the prep; orthadontist check to see when the earliest I can get my braces off is (March; very nicely timed, is someone up there backing me on this or what!), told my parents, who could have done better to hide their satisfaction in getting their office back (currently, and previously my bedroom), and I've told my friends too, so I can't pull out for fear of looking like a fool for bailing after my big announcement.
So thanks for your warm welcome, and I'll be popping back in to this site as often as I can to catch up, learn a thing or two, and be inspired by all your great travel stories!

Bye!

Belle
