Yeah, i should. The kicker of it is that for a good part of the trip, I'll likely be in the same country as her...My family is planning on going to Italy to visit our relatives over there next summer. So, I'll have a place to stay in Italy, and she'll see me. So, if we're in the same country, it's kinda the same as me going to Mardi Gras with her in Michigan, right? But she won't see it that way. And part of me is a bit afraid to go alone...as I've said, I'm super social and I don't know if I could do it by myself. I've also tried to get my brother to go...but he's got a totally different view than me...he'd rather stay at home..so i dont really know what to do, lol

Screw family! do your own thing, you are the one saving up for this! it's like if my parents came up to me and said you are not gonna travel anymore! I would be like dude, Reggie no dude! I'm doing it with my money and if you happen to be so worried get me a WWroaming mobile so you can stay in touch with me (or vice-versa) if anything. There solution! besides once you have the tickets and are aboard the plane she won't be bitchin'.

haha yeah, but my mom's paying for the flight (not that I won't have enough money to do so myself, but she's said if i did something, she'd pay for it, so I'm definitely going to cash in, lol). As for the screwing family part...they'll give me free places to stay & free food in Italy for a week, so I can't really complain...plus i really want to meet my Italian relatives.
Anyways, it's not just my mom either...like I said...I don't even know if I could do it alone...I'm the type of person that always needs to be surrounded by people...how I'd live without that would be the worst part I think

(Dr. Oprah Mode On) Well why do you travel in first place? To know and check out new stuff right? it's a moment that we search for personal evolution and what better than doing it by our own means (not saying don't cash or anything. . . Pfft juice 'em dry!) but I mean on the solo aspect it might be something diff for you at first, yet hands down it's gonna be something diff for you so it's part of the entire expirience. :greenguy:

haha thanks for the advise Oprah, lol. But yeah, I know. I travel because I want to see new things, meet new people, and yeah, it would be better being alone, but then part of me is also of the mindset of how much funnier all the travel stories will be when shared with one of my friends. I guess I'll probably see if I can find someone that wants to go with me that I know I will have a great time with. & If I can't, I'll probably make the attempt to go it alone.

Hey lovey, welcome!
Good luck on talking your family round. I can't really offer any input, as I've never been alone, but seriously, Europe is pretty safe. Obviously it's like any place, and crime does occur, but it's not like a crime fest!
As for the backpack, sorry, I have to disagree with Echeverry, don't necessarily buy your pack online. Go to stores and actually try them on and get shown how to strap it up right. Your shoulders and back will be forever greatful (grateful? I always get this wrong)!! If you think you'll get a better deal online, find one you like in a shop and then see if you can buy online!

Thanks! The backpack thing is really where I'm stuck at right now...I know I'll go, so whoever it's with, I'll deal. I've already been to a couple of out doorsey places w/ backpacks...although the ones I've seen online seem to be more convenient...usually sideloading & with zip on day packs. But I'm thinking that's what I'll probably do...find the one I like, try to find it in a store, and if not, get it online.
