Hi everyone!
Hiya,
Just joined the forums because I'm in my last year of A Levels and am planning on going traveling from next September.
Just need to decide where to go/who to go with/how to plan everything and am just hoping this site will provide some inspiration and answers.
Hello again

Yes Ben, I am British
And Marc, I'm rather drawn to Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines. And possibly India.
However after researching Thailand I am slightly put off by the amount of people there seem to be out there to scam you, and also how 'commercial' a backpacking destination it is....
Any opinions?

Wicked! Where abouts are you from?
I've never been to SEA myself but from what I heard it can be amazing if not a place with scammers.

I've from Birmingham, it isn't that exciting!
I've been to Canada twice, but never to Ontario, and it is a place I'd like to go again.
And yes SEA is definately an amazing and beautiful place from what I've seen and heard, but scammers are supposedly everywhere you turn, particuarly in Thailand.
Apparently most people in Malaysia are very nice and genuine though...

I think its hard to find many far off places anymore that arent covered by backpackers and scammers... Its part of life on the road these days... But dont let it deter you decision on where to go... SEA has been at the top of my list for years... I just havent gotten there yet... Been living and traveling in Central America for the better part of 17 months now... Tons of backpackers etc... But Ive also found šthoseš off the beaten path places that are sooo fucking amazing and only have a handful of backpackers there... Those are my favorite....

Birmingham eh? I love your arenas-I lived in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire so I would get the train occasionally out there to see shows.
As Marc said scammers are indeed a part of life whether you're on the road or not but as my current trip is showing (in New Orleans) there are also so many nice people out there too.
If you're ever in Ontario lemme know, always up for a meet up!

thailand is amazing!
we went for 2 weeks, and very rarely saw other backers actually, apart from on khao san rd of course!
we did bangkok, but also travelled around the north. no beaches, but it depends what you are looking for...
