Post New to TPunk Forum!

Hey everyone,

I have absorbed everything on the TP website and am now wanting to know what you much more experienced travellors know! This summer is going to be my first Europe experience. I am spending 2 weeks in Italy before doing 2 weeks in Ireland for a study abroad class (I am a grad student in vocational rehabilitation who is going to learn how the Irish accommodate people with disabilities). I am travelling alone (very excited and nervous about this!) and will take any advice and travel tips about Italy or Ireland!

My very tentative schedule for Italy is:

2 nights Venice
3 nights Cinque Terre
3-4 nights Rome
4-5 nights Amalfi Coast (Sorrento base with day trips to Naples, Pompeii, Carpi, Amalfi/Positano)
1 day Treviso (have early RyanAir flight so must crash here!)

Any suggestions or changes that would make more sense??

Thanks everyone!

I can't help with the itinerary, but there are plenty of others here who have spent time in Italy. Just wanted to say welcome, and good luck in your planning...

Welcome aboard!

Not much advice here - other than to say drink plenty of Guinness in Ireland.

Welcome to the boards!

Sorry I can't give you advice on Italy...won't make it there till September myself, but I hope you have a blast (and I know you will!). Traveling alone can be one of the most enriching and awesome experiences ever! :D

Hey, welcome to TP!

I'm yet another who can't give any advice... I've only been to Dublin once, and Italy once, and it wasn't to any of the places you're going!

But I'm sure someone will come along soon who has tonnes of advice to give you!

Welcome to the Boards!!!! When on the Almalfi Coast in Italy, you should definately to Capri, but you should go check out Ischia Island. Go to the city of Forio and stay at the Ring hostel. It is the most beautiful Island with volcanic springs etc.... So worth checking out. Also cruise around Napoli for a day. There is a great hostel there as well, the hostel of the sun. To get to the islands, go to port beverello, and the ferries connect from there. Have fun and enjoy

Thanks for all the replies! I feel welcome already . I will definitely check out Ischia. I hear it not as crowded with day-tripping tourists like Capri is. I did look at Hostel of the Sun (and it seems perfect!), but I have not determined yet if I want to stay in Naples. I think if when I get there and discover I love it, I will make that my base point instead of Sorrento.

When are you going? During my next trip I plan on spending a few weeks in Italy, sometime around the beginning of April probably...

The one thing to consider with Napoli, is that it is one fucking crazy hectic city. SOOOOO many people and the pace is chaotic, thus a great reason to atleast spend one day wandering the streets, just so you can experience a Napolian day. I would suggest the French quarter, great street vendors and the food, ohhhh yeah!!!.. Ischia is definatly much more chill than Capri, and i toured most of the island. Don't waste your time in Porto Ischia, not much there, but Forio is worth the trip. If you like thermal springs and the such, there is a lot available there. The brothers who own ring hostel in Forio are very cool, but are also womenizers! Their mom does all the cooking, and everynight, the peeps staying in the hostel are invited for a traditional dinner prepared by her. Totally worth doing that. I have a ton of info on this area if you need more. Check my profile for my email address if interested.

Haha... that pretty much sums up Italian men in general, right?

Ischia sounds cool, I'll have to check that out when I'm there...

I am planning on being there from June 3 to either 17 or 18. I am actually kind of excited to be around a bunch of womenizers. It will give me a much needed ego boost hahah. I just added to my itinerary some time in Ischia!!! I may even stay there a night, as soon as I figure out if my class starts the 18th or 19th in Dublin.
