Unhappy

Hallo, my name is Dan.. I live in Austin, Texas.. grew up in Palo Alto, California..
I've been exploring myself these past few years and I've decided more and more that what I really want to do with my life is travel, and learn as much as I can of other cultures, other languages.
My friend Steph (I'm sure you know her) told me of this site one day at work, and so I figured I'd check it out. This forum seems perfect for me, perfect for what I want to start moving my life toward.
Upcoming travel plans are to go visit Europe for 4-6 weeks (maybe more if I love it just that much). A friend of mine and myself are going to start out in Amsterdam and fly by the seat of our pants, who knows where it'll take us... Hoping to go through France at some point, though, since French is the language I'm studying currently.

More and more, recently, I've been thinking of just taking a year to go travel wherever. Be a true travel punk. I really don't know where to begin though. I can't wait to be immersed in this forum, it's just perfect!

(sorry this post is so scatterbrained, I can't focus right now)

As for places I've been, when I was twelve, I visited Accra, Ghana with my mother.. and two years ago I spent two weeks in Australia with my old high school's choir.

Anyway, I'm not sure of what else to say! Thank you for this community!

-Dan

(PS, hi Steph! Hope you're having fun in Australia!)

Salut! Bienvenue!

Ghana must have been an interesting place when you were 12, my current flatmate is from there and their culture seems very interesting to say the least.

Hope you have fun while you are here in Europe and if there is anything we can help you with im sure we will all be happy to give you some advice seeing as your Steph's mate!

Ghana certainly was interesting! We pretty much did the touristy thing, though that wasn't the plan to begin with... my mother teaches African Drumming for a living, and the main purpose of the trip was to obtain lessons from one of her teachers, but unfortunately he was sick with malaria. So instead, we went around to all of the crafting shops and heckled with the shop owners (who were very impressed with my mother's bargaining skills, they couldn't believe she was from the US), and went sightseeing. The food there was amazing! Mm, red red.. I miss that stuff.

I appreciate the offer of help as I'm sure I will be needing it!

Bienvenue parmi nous, Dan !

Make yourself at home, enjoy the forums, and don't be shy ask more questions. There are a couple of people who have backpaced Europe around here...

It's looking to be in early May through June!
...depending on how things go, I might just make myself more at home there!

Same time as me! If we're in the same places maybe we could do a TPunk meet-up.
