Hi all

Hit 30, so I've come to the backpacking thing abit late in the day - but better late than never.

Been surfing the Tpunk boards for a while, picking up any tips I can get and enjoying the stories.

Live in the UK and planning on a 3/4 month tour of north america - figured for a first trip, I'd avoid the language problems.

Anyway, how do you guys carry cash for long trips. As a non-US citizen, can't go sticking my card in the ATM and was hoping to avoid creditcards due to the amount you lose when they convert it into £.

Any suggestions?

thanks
Naj

Hey there, welcome to the boards! First of all, the GBP is doing so much better against the dollar that I don't think you'll be losing much money with the % fee that visa/mc charges. Seriously. But why can't you use the ATM's? We can use the atm's in europe, I can't imagine why european cards wouldn't work here. Hmm. But if you're really concerned about it, go to a bank and do your exchanges there. The US has tons of banks everywhere, at least as many as the UK, if not more. Good luck and have fun! If you're planning to go to Vancouver BC stop by Seattle!

Hi

thanks for that - I'm watching the fx rate every day - hopefully, for me anyway, it will stay this way until I come over in a few weeks.

Planning on covering most of the States, and parts of Canada too - just looking for an adventure.
