My name's Jake! Hello
New to the site
Love everything about it so far.
I do have a few problems though...
I really want to backpack Europe for atleast 2 weeks, but...
I will be a college student Spring 09
And i'll be officially broke :/
Maybe if i make sure to study abroad for a semester or year during college,
and after college i can do it?
Sound good so far?

hey welcome to tpunk!
if you're receiving a pell grant you can apply for a gilman scholarship, which award 5k to students based on need and essay of purpose, among other things. if you study a critical needs language (ie russian or arabic, etc) you can get an additional 3k
Two weeks in europe is cheaper than you might think. Excluding airfare it would prob be about 750 or 1k for two weeks. Just poke around the forum for a while and you'll see.

Welcome!!
And about being broke, I'm already a poor college student! However, I'm planning on studying abroad for a semester... And, I'm thinking about maybe getting a masters in teaching so I could potentially work for the dept. of defense and teach military children abroad, but that's with long term in mind rather than short term.
Anyway, the boards have plenty to offer about how to travel cheaply, so take a look and feel free to ask any questions you may still have

Whoa.... there ARE other Jakes out there!
Welcome to tpunk buddy.
So you're in a high school senior? Why don't you just go after your graduate? Or if you're not in school... just work, save up and go in the summer!
Personally I did it after I graduate university, but most of the people I met were either in University or just finished high skool.

Welcome Jake! I am also a broke student, but I am doing study abroad next term so that it's included in school fees. So that's definitely a good way to go. Plus, 2 weeks wouldn't be too expensive if you budget yourself accordingly with hostels, and catching a good fare price. Good Luck!
